Thanks, Yurie.
A must see for anyone visiting Japan is Mt. Kōya.
This quiet little town, high in the moutains of Wakayama Prefecture is home to one of Japan's oldest monastic settlements, founded over twelve centuries ago for the study and propagation of Shingon -- or, esoteric Buddhism.
Today, Mt. Kōya is a popular destination for tourists and religious pilgrims alike.
One of the best ways to get the most out of your visit to Mt. Kōya is with KoyaQuest.
KoyaQuest is a free app that provides in-depth descriptions to over fifty historical and religious sites around Mt. Kōya.
But there's so much more!
KoyaQuest is also an interactive game, featuring twelve exciting and educational challenges.
Let me show you how it works.
I'm here at the Danjō-garan, which is one of the spiritual centers of Mt. Kōya. As I am walking around, enjoying the scenery, my phone buzzes, because the app KoyaQuest is telling me that there is a challenge nearby.
This site-specific challenge at the Danjō-garan is based is based on the legendary origins of Mt. Kōya.
Kūkai, who is the founder of Mt. Kōya, is said to have thrown a ritual sceptre, also known as a vajra, all the way from China, hoping it would lead him to where he was to build his monastery.
Well, it landed here in Mt. Kōya in Japan.
Our challenge today is to find that vajra!
So, hopefully, you get the idea.
All of the challenges in KoyaQuest are unique. Some test your powers of observation, memory, intuition, and overall video game skills.
But every game will enrich you experience here at unforgettable Mt. Kōya!
Oh! I got another challenge!
